Serhiy recalls the day of the tragedy: “I instantly jumped out of bed and stood up. I realized that I needed to put on shoes – at least socks – because there would be broken glass everywhere. The loss was so great that no words could convey the pain.”

Despite the loss , the man says he thinks of his wife and son “with a smile,” believing that “where they are now, they are doing well.” He says he is convinced that Anna and Timofey have been reunited with his mother, and he looks forward to the day he will meet them again.

After the death of his family and the loss of his home, Serhiy and his daughter Lisa moved into a house provided by members of the local church community. “We did some minor renovations and just started settling in,” he said.

However, on December 13, during one of the most massive attacks on Odessa, a Russian drone again hit a man’s home. This time, there were no casualties. Gaidarzhi himself noted that the house can be rebuilt, “but life – you can never get it back”: “So the difference between what happened then and what happened now is huge.”

When asked about revenge, he replied that “God will avenge us,” adding that God’s justice, in his words, is “much stricter.”
