The Russian military command has banned units from using the Telegram messaging app and other open communication channels to transmit official information.
The directive was published by the intelligence community InformNapalm, which obtained a fragment of an internal document.
The ban applies to the transmission of orders, targeting instructions, operational communications, and any data regarding unit activities.
The document states that these restrictions were introduced to counter technical intelligence and block information leaks.
The Russian command explains this by claiming that open digital platforms are allegedly controlled by the enemy.

Instead, military personnel are ordered to use only closed communication systems, specifically “KTS Svyaz,” “Turtle,” “Thunderstorm,” “Thistle,” “Mishutka,” and the “Postlink” messenger.
Even non-classified operational information is permitted to be transmitted exclusively through these systems.
The document also prohibits the use of Ukrainian SIM cards, captured devices, and smartphones while performing tasks.
In addition, the use of foreign-made mobile communication devices is restricted.
At the same time, Telegram has effectively become the primary channel for operational communication on the battlefield for many Russian units.

The restrictions introduced may reduce information leaks, but at the same time complicate troop management due to the loss of familiar communication channels.
Militarnyi recently reported that Japan is concerned about information leaks due to the use of Huawei equipment in Ukraine.

“The restrictions introduced may reduce information leaks, but at the same time complicate troop management due to the loss of familiar communication channels.”
That’s like trading cancer for Anthrax. The cockroaches are not the smartest and using complex communications systems is the last thing this horde needs.
