Due to the war in Iran, Bangladesh is forced to ration fuel for vehicles.

Bangladesh has asked the United States for permission to purchase  oil from Russia . The problem is that a shortage of raw materials and a sharp increase in oil prices are putting pressure on the country’s economy, the Associated Press reports .

Bangladesh Finance Minister Amir Khosrow Mahmud Chowdhury made the request during a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Brent T. Christensen on March 11. Journalists note that Bangladesh is heavily dependent on fuel imports from the Middle East. Because of this, the country’s government introduced a fuel rationing system for vehicles after the start of the Iran war.

In addition, Bangladesh has closed a fertilizer factory to ensure fuel supplies for power plants. The country has also closed universities to reduce energy consumption.

“The country is also making efforts to source fuel from alternative sources. India has already supplied 5,000 tonnes of diesel fuel as emergency aid through a cross-border pipeline. Bangladesh has requested India to increase fuel supplies,” the publication notes.
