Is Kupyansk surrounded?: The Armed Forces of Ukraine have clarified the situation. Map

The Russian Federation has once again started talking about the fact that their troops have surrounded Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region. Moreover, they are telling tales about advances on several front lines around the city. In the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, these statements are accompanied by stories about dozens of Ukrainian battalions in a ring.

However, the real situation looks completely different. This was stated by Viktor Tregubov, head of the communications department of the Joint Forces Group, on Channel 24. He emphasized that the high-profile stories about successes near Kupyansk and Borovaya still exist only in the announcements and dreams of Russians.

The situation in the Kupyansk direction

“The Russians continue to spread statements about the “encirclement” and “capture” of Kupyansk, which do not correspond to the real circumstances,” Tregubov said.

He also recalled that stories about the capture of Kupyansk have been repeated for several months, and the scale of local settlements physically does not allow the implementation of the scenarios discussed in the Kremlin.

“Euclidean geometry simply does not allow placing 15 battalions in a village four kilometers away. It’s not like surrounding them there. In fact, Russian units are not having any success near Kupyansk , and statements about large-scale breakthroughs remain informational fictions created for a domestic audience,” Tregubov added.

According to him, Moscow tried to present them as evidence of “promotion” when it was looking for a favorable negotiating position in late November. However, as of now, Borova appears only in the announcements and dreams of Russian bloggers. Without real changes for them in place

Despite some tactical changes, the defense line in the direction remains stable. Russian forces are unable to advance deeper than the landings and border areas. Their public statements differ significantly from what is actually happening on the front.

The situation in the Volchansky direction

In the area from Vovchansk to Velyky Burluk, Russian forces attempted to advance along the border throughout November. They managed to push back Ukrainian units by several kilometers, but these advances did not change the operational situation. Tregubov emphasizes that these are more local actions than the “successes” claimed by the Russians.

” They partially managed to push the Ukrainian forces a few kilometers. But it’s mostly about landings,” Tregubov explained.

In the Vovchansk direction, the situation is more complicated due to the destruction of the city and the Russians’ attempts to gain a foothold among the destroyed buildings. Despite this, Ukrainian positions in Vovchansk are preserved, and it is impossible to speak of full control over the city. At the same time, the Russians hold part of the territory, which complicates the conduct of battles.

“It is impossible to say that they have taken the city completely. Our positions there are preserved, although the Russians control a significant part. However, the enemy’s activity in this area has not led to changes in the front line, which Russian channels claim. Ukrainian units hold key defense points. Russian forces, even having advanced in certain directions, do not have the opportunity to develop an offensive and move on to broader operations,” Tregubov summed up the situation.

What preceded

On the morning of December 6, it became known that Russian troops are continuing their attempts to advance in the Kupyansk direction , but the occupiers are unable to advance. On the other hand, Ukrainian soldiers in Kupyansk have recently advanced into the city center.

Instead, Russian invaders advanced in the direction of Borovaya. According to ISW, on December 5, Russian troops continued offensive operations in the Kupyansk direction, but did not advance.

As OBOZ.UA reported, the Ukrainian defenders  have a “positive forecast” regarding the retention of Kupyansk – the Armed Forces of Ukraine are clearing the city of the occupiers, albeit gradually . The situation on the eastern bank of the  Oskil River is also “quite stable” despite the fact that the enemy is actively attacking our servicemen there. This assessment  was given to our publication by military expert Vladislav Seleznyov  in  an exclusive interview.

    That is great news.
Unfortunately though it is the defenders who are on the back foot.
The reason is lack of money, firepower and manpower.
Despite the innumerable “putler’s finished” articles, there is currently no realistic possibility of the kind of total economic collapse that would halt the war; you’d need a GDP drop of 50% for that.
Putler will continue until he gets Donbas; however long it takes and at what cost.
There would then be a consolidation period of some years, in which time they would build defensive structures and swamp the place with orcs, ready for the next all-out attack.
During that consolidation period, putler would continue what he does best : torturing, raping and murdering Ukrainian civilians.
That is why the allies need to act now to avoid further horror.
    Enough is enough.
