Tehran officially announced the launch of a large-scale military operation in response to the destruction of the state’s supreme leader.

The strike is being prepared by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and, according to the Iranian leadership, this operation is allegedly capable of radically changing the balance of power in the Middle East.

Following the official confirmation of the Ayatollah’s death, the regime’s security apparatus issued a harsh and uncompromising statement. Representatives of the military wing promised large-scale retaliation, emphasizing that not only Israeli targets but also American military bases and infrastructure throughout the region could be targeted.

The most powerful offensive operation in history

“This will be the most powerful offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic. We will not stop until the enemy is defeated,” the IRGC said in a statement.

Among the priority goals, Tehran named:

•  American military facilities in the Middle East, including bases in Iraq and Syria;
•  the strategic infrastructure of Israel, which in official Iranian rhetoric is called a “Zionist entity”;
•  decision-making centers that, according to the Iranian side, are involved in the operation to eliminate the supreme leader.

In turn, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed that the country rejects any attempts at a diplomatic settlement at this stage. He called Khamenei’s assassination a “grave crime” that requires only a forceful response.

“We will make America and the Zionist establishment regret this. Our response will be so powerful that it will force Washington and Tel Aviv to capitulate,” Pezeshkian stressed, adding that Khamenei’s case will be pursued.

Recall that Supreme Leader Khamenei was killed during massive missile strikes by the US and Israel.

Strikes on Iran on February 28

• As a reminder, on the morning of February 28, Israel launched a bombing operation against the Iranian capital, Tehran. This was a joint operation with the US armed forces.
• Israel called the operation against Iran “Roaring Lion,” and the US called it “Epic Fury.”
• US President Donald Trump said that the goal of the operation against Iran is to “destroy Iran’s missile industry, its navy” and “ensure that Iran cannot destabilize the world.”
• Trump accused Iran of “funding and training” militants in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Hamas in Palestine.
• The Israel Defense Forces reported that it deployed more than 200 fighter jets to strike 500 targets in Iran.
• On the evening of February 28, a senior Israeli official told Reuters that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed this morning in an Israeli airstrike in Iran. His body has already been found.
• US President Donald Trump later confirmed the death of Ayatollah Khamenei.
