This 5 year old boy is one of the victims of Russia’s heinous genocide attack on Ukraine today. He is currently in intensive care with a concussion due to head trauma. This is NOT what childhood is supposed to look like, but it is childhood in Ukraine because Russia has decided to make it so.

The White House, United States Senate, U.S. House of Representatives … still think Putin seeks peace? If Russia wants peace, the answer is simple…get the hell out of Ukraine. Russia is our adversary. Putin is a war criminal. Treat them accordingly. Appeasing Putin and Russia is anti-American, more so as Russia offers telemetry and intelligence to Iran to target our soldiers. C’mon.

Absolutely not childhood should be like!
Russia undermines the very concept of childhood.
UNESCO defines early childhood as the period from birth to eight years old, a crucial phase for holistic development – cognitive, social, emotional, and physical – that lays the foundation for lifelong learning.
Childhood is defined by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child as a period entitled to specialised #protection, education, and the right to be heard.
None of these positions includes, but rather excludes, traumatic experience, deprivation of the right to develop in safe environments, be threatened and targeted – that is beyond understanding of a NORMAL human being.
It appears Russia in general, Russia authorities, government, militaries of all ranks (not Putin alone!) do not belong to this category and are a direct threat to children and safe childhood.
Seeing this five-year-old boy, injured by attacks, lying in a hospital bed and looking at the camera, breaks my heart. He is innocent. He is a child.
And yet, he has already seen more pain than anyone should ever have to endure. War is not an abstract number—it destroys lives, families, and the future of children like him. And alongside this horror, there is a profound helplessness.
I cannot understand why Germany has still not delivered the Taurus missiles. Every day that passes without strong support puts Ukraine, its people, and the very values of Europe—freedom, democracy, human dignity—at greater risk.
Ukraine is defending not just its own land, but all of us! We cannot stand by while innocent lives are destroyed! It is time to act decisively and provide Ukraine with the support it urgently needs!

I am sick to death of the DELIBERATE avoidance of calling Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilians, critical infrastructure, and cultural heritage objects what they are: genocide. What we witnessed in Lviv today, was Russian GENOCIDE. Call things by their proper names!
Strikes on a maternity hospitals, like Russia’s attack in Ivano-Frankivsk today? GENOCIDE.
ALL of Russia’s attacks on Ukraine further the objective of the extermination of the Ukrainian nation and the national ethnic group!!

Ariana Gic is a writer, political and legal analyst, and coordinator of various advocacy campaigns for a strong international response to Russia’s war and genocide against Ukraine.
She is the Director of the Direct Initiative International Centre for Ukraine, and co-author of the upcoming book, Unrecognized War. Ms Gic is co-lead of a legal research project on the ongoing Russian genocide against Ukrainians, and an information campaign “Save Ukraine to Save the World” for International Recognition of this genocide. She co-led “Truth for Peace,” a public campaign which called for recognizing Russia as the aggressor state waging unlawful interstate war against Ukraine from 2014 to 2022, and continues to campaign for Russia being designated as a rogue state threatening world peace, and as a state sponsor of terrorism.
She has written extensively on the issues of the Russia-Ukraine war for international and Ukrainian media for over a decade. Ms Gic is sanctioned by the Russian Federation for her advocacy and activism work.
The innocent little lad in the photo is a symbol of Ukrainian bravery and resistance.

Yes this really shames her Chancellor. He possesses the means to inflict serious damage on the putler war machine; a war machine that is even more evil than his little Austrian predecessor.
Yet he does nothing, preferring to renege on an earlier promise.

Why is it that only historians like Ariana and Prof Tim Snyder will say these things in public?
It is GENOCIDE and every democratic world leader should call it out.
