Ukrainian military intelligence conducted a deep raid into the rear of Russian troops in the Zaporizhia direction and returned with prisoners. As a result of the operation, the GUR fighters not only inflicted losses on the enemy, but also received valuable intelligence data on the positions and resources of the Russian army.
This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. A video with fragments of the operation was published on the official Telegram channel of the GUR.
As noted in the GUR, the special operation was carried out in December 2025 in the Zaporizhia direction. The sabotage and reconnaissance group of the “Brotherhood” unit , which is part of the “Timur Special Unit” of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, carried out a deep raid into the enemy’s rear in the area of the Kakhovka reservoir.
During the combat sortie, Ukrainian intelligence officers eliminated two Russian occupiers, wounded two more, and captured two Russian servicemen. After that, the Brotherhood fighters conducted a difficult and lengthy escort of the prisoners – about 27 kilometers – and successfully brought them to the territory controlled by Ukraine.
According to the GUR, the captured Russian servicemen provided important information regarding the locations of enemy officers, artillery positions, UAV operators, areas of concentration of personnel, equipment, and ammunition depots. The information received is already being used for further actions by the Defense Forces.
Intelligence notes that the operation revealed serious gaps in the Russian front-line defense system. According to the Ukrainian military, the enemy does not expect active reconnaissance operations deep in its positions and is not able to effectively counter such raids in the rear.
After the operation, the head of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, awarded the fighters and commanders of the “Brotherhood” unit with state and departmental awards. The GUR emphasized that the armed struggle continues, and such operations remain an important element of pressure on the Russian occupation forces.
OBOZ.UA previously reported that up to a hundred Russian occupiers remain surrounded in Kupyansk, Kharkiv region, which was “taken” by Russian generals and personally by dictator Vladimir Putin in December . The Russians are hiding in different parts of the city, and they are trying to supply them with provisions and medicines using drones – most often, unsuccessfully.
