France has just made one of Ukraine’s favorite smart weapons, the AASM Hammer, even smarter. The new LIR (Lear Seeker) has completed qualification after successful test strikes, enhancing its effectiveness as a precision-guided weapon.

I explain what the new multi-mode LIR seeker actually does, why it matters in a jamming-heavy battlefield, and how it gives Ukraine more flexibility against moving and concealed targets. We also get into the bigger story: France is evolving it in real time, and that has direct implications for Ukraine’s strike capability.
