On the night of December 26, explosions were heard near the Lukoil oil refinery in Volgograd, Russia. The regional authorities confirmed the drone attack on the Volgograd region, and a drone emergency regime was declared in the city and region.
Volgograd Region Governor Andrey Bocharov said that the air defense units of the Russian Defense Ministry had repelled the UAV attack. According to him, at that time there was no information about casualties or damage to facilities.
According to the governor’s press service, “tonight, air defense units of the Russian Ministry of Defense are repelling an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles on the territory of the Volgograd region.” They also assured that the situation is being monitored by the region’s emergency services.
After reports of explosions, a state of emergency was imposed in the region.
Rosaviatsia immediately closed Volgograd Airport, limiting the arrival and departure of flights.
Local residents began actively publishing videos on social networks and public forums. The footage shows bright flashes, explosions and fires on the territory of the plant. Eyewitnesses wrote that the glow was visible from different areas of the city, and air defenses were working in the sky.
What is known now?
Witnesses said the drones had reached the Lukoil refinery. Reports said at least 8-10 explosions were heard in the west and north of Volgograd. People also reported a rumble in the sky, bright flashes, and strong sound waves that shook walls and windows in apartments.
Eyewitnesses claim that the drones were flying at a low altitude from the Volga River. Information about the extent of damage to the plant has not been officially confirmed at this time.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that on the night of November 6, explosions were already recorded in Volgograd near the oil refinery owned by Lukoil. At least 10 explosions thundered over Volgograd.
