Dozens of Chinese car brands are planning to leave Russia. Their share in the Russian market reaches 60%.

The Russian car market this year will face a mass exodus of Chinese brands from the Russian Federation, as dozens of Chinese car brands are not assembled in Russia, but are imported from China, and demand for them among Russians is low.

This was stated by the head of the Russian Automobile Dealers Association, Alexei Podshchekoldin, The Moscow Times reports . 

“If a company cannot maintain a network of service centers in the Russian Federation and quickly provide spare parts and repairs under warranty, then few people trust it. In 2025, we will see that we will have even fewer Chinese brands,” said Podshchekoldin.

According to him, only a few manufacturers from China have opened assembly lines and service centers in Russia, as well as provided access to spare parts . Among them are such car brands as Changan, Chery, Geely and Haval.

Currently, more than 100 car brands are represented in the primary and secondary markets in Russia. Approximately 60% of them are Chinese, about 30% are Russian, and 5-6% are those that have officially left Russia, and this proportion may remain until the end of 2025.

Previously, representatives of dealerships warned about the withdrawal of some Chinese car brands from Russia. According to them, this primarily concerns Chinese brands with a minimal customer base – Livan, Kaiyi, SWM, Foton, and others.

It was previously reported that Russia conducted a study on the ability of Chinese cars to withstand local weather conditions. The tests were held in 26 regions, 17 Chinese car brands took part in them, and according to the test results, Chinese cars in Russia rust in two years, while European brands that left the Russian Federation can withstand up to 22.

In December last year, it was reported that some Chinese brands would leave the Russian car market in 2025 due to oversaturation with similar models and declining demand.

At the end of November, it became known that the share of Chinese brands in the Russian new car market reached 68% by the end of 2024.

After the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine unleashed by Russia, all international automakers left the Russian Federation – they closed production and stopped deliveries.
