Currently, gas transportation via this route has been suspended indefinitely.

A mysterious “soil subsidence” occurred in the Volgograd region of the Russian Federation, resulting in the failure of the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline.

As UNIAN was informed by sources in the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense, according to the Russian version, a multi-kilometer Soviet-era pipe, which for years transported gas from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, could not withstand the force of gravity near the settlement of Romanovka, Olkhovsky District, Volgograd Region.

“The real cause of the sudden geological incident can be seen in exclusive photos obtained by our special correspondents,” the source added.

Despite the “insignificance” of the incident, emergency and special services vehicles were massed at the scene of the accident just a few hours before the accident.

“Probably to record another unique natural phenomenon: the soil, which for some reason selectively subsides under strategic gas infrastructure,” the source emphasized.

It is noted that the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline is a key element of the system through which the Russian Federation has imported up to 12 billion cubic meters of gas per year for years.

After 2022, the Kremlin, despite loud statements about “energy independence,” used this pipe in reverse schemes and even purchased gas from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to cover local deficits.

“Currently, gas transportation via this route has been suspended indefinitely,” the source stated.

A GUR source warned that geological processes in the territory of the Russian Federation have a tendency to further develop – especially near facilities that finance the war against Ukraine.
