Hungary has secured an exemption from US sanctions on Russian energy supplies . Prime Minister Orbán announced this at a press conference following a meeting with US President Donald Trump, according to the Hungarian publication Telex .
“Hungary will continue to have the lowest energy prices. In the case of Turkish Stream and the Druzhba pipeline, they were granted immunity from sanctions. This is a general and permanent exception,” he said.
Hungary receives Russian gas through the Turkish Stream and oil through the Druzhba pipeline.
Orban stressed that this would “protect the reduction of utility bills.”
According to this publication, Trump himself, during a conversation with journalists during the open portion of his working lunch with Orban, did not dispute the Hungarian prime minister’s statement, but he also did not directly and unequivocally confirm it.
