The New York Times noted that during a telephone conversation with EU leaders, the US leader spoke about plans to meet with Putin and Zelensky.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly told US Special Representative Steve Witkoff that he wants to meet with US President Donald Trump at some point, Fox News reports .

According to the TV channel, after Whitkoff delivered this message, the US president said that he was open to a meeting next week if it could lead to an end to the war in Ukraine.

Possibility of Trump-Putin meeting

Earlier, The New York Times reported that Trump plans to hold a personal meeting with Putin next week, and then initiate trilateral talks with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the publication, Trump voiced his intentions in a telephone conversation with European leaders, which took place on Wednesday, August 6. One of the sources clarified that the talks are planned to be held in a narrow format – with the participation of only three heads of state, without the mediation of representatives of the European Union.
