Rescuer Alexander Zibrov, who was caught in Russia’s second air strike on Kyiv on January 9, has died . This was announced by Andriy Danik, head of the State Emergency Service.

“Another difficult day for the State Emergency Service family: unfortunately, after 18 days of fighting for his life, our colleague, 36-year-old Oleksandr Zibrov, a firefighter and rescuer with the 24th State Fire and Rescue Unit, has passed away. He, along with other fellow firefighters, was hit by a second Russian strike on January 9 in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district,” he noted.
According to him, the enemy took another life of a brave and courageous firefighter, a loving husband and a caring father.
“He suffered serious injuries while protecting people despite the terrible danger,” the statement said.
What is known about the January 9 attack on Kyiv?
As UNIAN reported, on January 9, 2026, during a second strike on Kyiv by Russian invaders , a medic was killed and four of his colleagues were wounded. Five rescue workers were also wounded.
Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Lyashko revealed at the time that the medic killed by Russia was named Serhiy Smolyak. He was 56 years old and worked at the Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine.
Lyashko noted that when the emergency medical team arrived at the scene of the shelling of the residential building, the enemy launched a second attack.
According to him, a total of four people died and 24 were injured in Kyiv that night.
Lyashko added that the greatest damage was to residential buildings and civilian structures in four districts of the capital – a shopping center, a sanatorium, and a playground in the courtyard of a residential building.
