This is Zelenskiy’s first foreign visit since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the United States of America. 

United States President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, CNN reported , citing two people familiar with the matter.

Zelensky’s sudden trip to the US will coincide with the Biden administration’s intention to send a new aid package to Ukraine that will include Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.

The visit, which was not finalized and previously canceled due to security concerns, will mark Zelenskiy’s first foreign trip since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February.

Updated: According to Axios , Capitol Hill is preparing to receive Zelensky as part of a joint meeting of both houses of Congress this week. While the details of the visit have yet to be finalized, police are ramping up security measures for a potential Wednesday visit.

In particular, Zelenskiy is expected to thank U.S. lawmakers for providing billions of dollars of aid to Ukraine’s war effort. Also, Zelensky should explain why Ukraine needs more funding.

At the same time, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, in her letter, called on “all members to be physically present for our Wednesday evening session.”

Updated 03:19: CNN, citing two sources who are familiar with Zelensky’s plans for a visit to the United States, reported that the President of Ukraine is already on his way to Washington.
