We are talking about weapons that could potentially be aimed at the territory of the Russian Federation.

The United States of America does not intend to prevent Ukraine from developing long-range strike capabilities.

This was stated by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, writes CNN . The US is not working to prevent Ukraine from developing its own long-range strike capabilities that could potentially target Russian territory, he said.

“We are not working to prevent Ukraine from developing its own capabilities,” Austin said.

The announcement comes after a senior State Department official suggested that Ukraine may be behind the recent drone strikes on two Russian bases.

Attacks on Russian airfields

As UNIAN reported earlier,  explosions sounded at Russian airfields  in the Saratov and Ryazan regions on December 5.

It is there that the Tu-95MS, Tu-160, Tu-22M3 bombers are based, which Russia uses during massive attacks on the critical infrastructure of Ukraine.

The Russian Defense Ministry blamed Ukraine for the attack. According to them,  Soviet-made UAVs were fired at the airfields .

Already on December 6,  a drone attacked the Russian airfield in Kursk . As a result, the oil reservoir caught fire.

Commenting on the attack, for which no one officially took responsibility, the State Department noted that the United States “does not allow” and “does not encourage” the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strike on Russian territory .
