The Ukrainian military liberated Kherson and now they can go on the offensive on the left bank of the Kherson region and Crimea. Oleg Soskin, director of the Institute for Society Transformation, economist and political scientist, spoke about this in an interview with Glavred .

He is convinced that the Russian occupiers will not be able to hide from the Ukrainian defenders.

“Firstly, after the loss of the right bank, the remnants of the Russian troops who fled from Kherson, frayed and exhausted, with almost no equipment, ended up in an even more terrible “bag” for them on the left bank. Secondly, the left bank of the Kherson region to the Perekop isthmus, to Armyansk is under the fire control of Ukrainian artillery, HIMARS, rocket launchers, howitzers and everything,” Soskin said.

He also noted that the Russian military will not be able to hide on the left bank, since there is the Kherson desert and there is simply nowhere to hide.

“They will be easily knocked out, destroyed, simply erased to zero,” the expert added.

Soskin noted that the Russian invaders had already moved 15 km from the coast.

“And this is just the beginning, they are not able to protect the left bank, including the territory from the Kinburn Spit to Gola Pristan and Skadovsk, where the road from Kherson to the Crimean peninsula runs,” the expert noted.

According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will also be able to break through in the Svatovo region, as well as liberate part of the Kharkov region.

“Ugledar, Marinka, Bakhmut – very heavy battles are going on there. If the Armed Forces of Ukraine go higher to the border, to Troitskoye, they will liberate a piece of the Kharkov region and enter Urazovo and Valuyki (settlements in the Belgorod region – Glavred), than they will completely cut off the enemy’s supply,” Soskin noted.

He believes that in the near future the Ukrainian military will not try to liberate Melitopol, since at this stage it is difficult to do so.

A view of the Oleshky Sands. The region stretches over 1,620 sq. km. The sandy massif consists of seven parts, each with its own unique natural and climatic features. Taking this into consideration, the total area of the desert is 2085 sq.km. Its length from north to south is 35 – 40 kilometres, and from west to east – up to 150 kilometres.

Liberation of Kherson

On November 9, it became known that bridges had been blown up in Kherson, occupied by Russian troops . On the administrative buildings of the city, the state flags of the Russian invaders disappeared.

On the same day, the Minister of Defense of the occupying country of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, ordered the withdrawal of Russian troops from the right bank of the Kherson region , including the city of Kherson, in order to move to the left bank of the region and take up “defense” there.

Already on November 11, People’s Deputy of Ukraine Oleksiy Goncharenko announced that the Ukrainian military were in Kherson . Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak also hinted at this. Local residents gathered in the center of the city, they held Ukrainian flags in their hands.

Later, Ukrainian intelligence officially confirmed that Kherson was coming under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Touching videos appeared on the Web , which show how the Ukrainian military arrived in the center of Kherson and met with local residents. Many could not hold back the tears, but these are happy emotions. Kherson residents are incredibly grateful to the Ukrainian defenders.

  1. Oleshky Sands – a little known geographic area of Ukraine. Whoever has travelled to Crimea via mainland Ukraine has seen a small part of this desert. Indeed, the place is not well-suited to hide an army and especially heavy weapons will be quite exposed. Most of the rest of the left bank in the south is flat, featureless steppe. The main danger lies in getting hit by artillery, air attacks and rocket fire, since an attacking foe would also be exposed. We’ll see how this pans out for UA forces.
