The Russian authorities began openly advertising in the mass media the forced adoption of Ukrainian children .

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted that a so-called documentary film about the removal and forced adoption of Ukrainian children into Russian families is widely distributed in the country.

According to the institute, this is evidenced by the filmed videos with the participation of several Ukrainian children from Donbas who were adopted into Russian families. The videos also claim that Russian puppet officials removed more than 150,000 children from Donbas in 2022 alone.

ISW analysts recalled that “programs of forced adoption and deportation of children under the guise of rest and rehabilitation likely form the basis of a massive Russian depopulation campaign that may constitute a violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and is a broader effort at ethnic cleansing.” .

Analysts also pointed to the fact that the Russian children’s ombudsman fully supports the forced removal of Ukrainian children and their adoption in the Russian Federation. She even adopted a child taken from Mariupol herself.

At the same time, experts noted that Russian officials continue to make efforts in the occupied territories to replace collaborators with Russian officials, forcibly relocate residents and continue attempts to integrate the occupied territories with the Russian Federation.

In addition, the analysts of the Institute noted that Yevgeny Prigozhin, the financier of Wagner PMC, continues to establish himself as a central figure in the pro-military ultra-nationalist community of the Russian Federation, probably pursuing ambitious political goals.

ISW also reported that Russian troops continued ground attacks near Bakhmut and Avdiivka, as well as in the west of Donetsk region. And the Ukrainian troops continued to attack the manpower and logistical nodes of the occupiers in the south of Ukraine.

Numerous reports indicate that the morale and psychological state of Russian troops in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions is extremely low.

Russia kidnaps Ukrainian children

The occupiers are taking Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation under the pretext of evacuation and allegedly on vacation.

On October 17, Vice President of the European Commission, High Representative of the EU for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated that the abduction of Ukrainian children by the Russian military is a war crime.

On November 14, the press service of the President’s Office reported that since the beginning of the full-scale war, the  Russians had deported more than 10,700 children  from Ukraine . International humanitarian law classifies such actions of the aggressor as a war crime.
