The petition to expel russia from the UN has gathered 200 thousand votes out of 300 thousand required for its consideration. As written on the Change.org website, where the Petition is located, it could become one of the most subscribed on this resource, if it collects another 100 thousand votes of support.
The “Kick Russia out of the UN” movement asserts that the russian federation illegitimately takes its place both in the UN and among the permanent members of the Security Council.
“According to the current UN Charter, Russia is neither a member of the Security Council, nor a member of the UN, because it has not gone through the procedure for joining the UN, in accordance with Article 4 of the UN Charter. The current UN Charter says that the Soviet Union still exists, and Russia is not mentioned at all”, – the initiators of the Movement assert.
In their opinion, depriving russia of the right of veto in the UN Security Council “…which blocks many peaceful decisions, will restore peace and order in the international community”.
