A student from Zambia, convicted in the Russian Federation, died in the war in Ukraine: the country requires an explanation

The body of the Zambian citizen is in Rostov-on-Don and will soon be sent home.

A citizen of Zambia, sentenced in Russia to 9.5 years in prison, died in the war in Ukraine . The country’s Foreign Ministry demanded an explanation.

As noted in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Zambia , 23-year-old Lemehani student Nathan Nyirenda studied at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, where he studied the design of nuclear installations. In April 2020, he was sentenced to 9.5 years in prison in Russia.

“In connection with this extremely sad development of events, the government of Zambia requires the Russian authorities to urgently provide information on the circumstances under which a Zambian citizen who served a prison term in Moscow could be recruited for the war in Ukraine and died after that,” the Foreign Minister stressed. Zambian Stanley Kakubo.

The Foreign Ministry noted that the Zambian died in the war on September 22, 2022. However, the diplomats were only informed of the man’s death on 9 November.

According to the agency, the body of a Zambian citizen is in Rostov-on-Don and will soon be sent home.
