North Korean factories, contrary to UN sanctions, produce and export uniforms for Russian soldiers to the Russian Federation.

According to Radio Free Asia , citing sources in North Korea, at least three factories in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang and other parts of the country are involved in the process of supplying the army of the aggressor country with winter uniforms.

“The export clothing factory in the Moranbong district of Pyongyang… has been producing Russian military uniforms for about a month now. They make winter uniforms and underwear for soldiers who are at war with Ukraine. I heard from a high-ranking official at the factory that they received Russian fabric for making uniforms , and Russia is ordering large quantities,” the source said.

The finished uniform is expected to be sent to Russia by the Tyumen-Khasan freight train. At the beginning of the month, rail traffic on this route resumed after a long break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before the resumption of rail transportation across the Russian-Korean border, raw materials for the production of uniforms from the Russian Federation were transported by sea. Now, probably, both the raw material and the finished form will be transported by rail.

“Since the movement of freight trains between North Korea and Russia resumed on November 2, Russia will receive not only ready-made uniforms, but also raw materials for new uniforms,” the source said.

The source also noted that prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, export clothing factories in Pyongyang earned foreign exchange by exporting the clothes they produced for companies in China and Eastern Europe. This process appears to have also been restarted.

In the near future, it is likely that the production of uniforms for the Russian army will expand. The border town of Rason will produce boots.

At the same time, propaganda of friendship between Russia and North Korea is intensifying in the DPRK. The day before, the Russian embassy in North Korea said that Moscow is interested in buying clothes and shoes in Pyongyang. The statement noted that “all such projects must be implemented in strict accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions prohibiting the import of certain goods from the DPRK.” At the same time, a UN Security Council resolution adopted in September 2017 completely bans all textile exports from North Korea.
