Sweden agreed to a renewed defense policy. Within its framework, the Scandinavian state will “more actively” send military aid to Ukraine to fight against Russian aggression.

The Minister of Defense of Sweden, Paul Jonson, said this in an interview with the Dagens Nyheter portal.

The official said that he held a bilateral meeting with his Ukrainian colleague Oleksiy Reznikov. During the conversation, Jonson promised more “active” military support from official Stockholm. At the same time, the Minister of Defense of Sweden did not specify what kind of weapons he was talking about.

Earlier, deputy Mikael Oskarsson from the defense committee of the parliament of the Scandinavian country made it clear that Ukraine can receive two types of equipment. These are RBS 70 portable anti-aircraft missile systems, which have four upgrades, and FH77BW L52 Archer wheeled self-propelled artillery installations. The Swedish mass media, with reference to the military, reported that the 12 mentioned self-propelled guns would be handed over to Ukraine.

Helping our country in the fight against Russian aggression is one of Sweden’s military priorities, along with investments in state defense and joining NATO.

Arms deliveries to Ukraine from Sweden: basic information

  • In September, Reznikov announced the eighth package of military aid from Sweden. It included “some important and valuable tools” for Ukrainian defenders. Exact information about deliveries was not disclosed.
  • The previous, seventh package with a total value of SEK 500 million was granted in August . It definitely contained artillery ammunition.
  • Sweden also allowed the possibility of producing weapons  for Ukraine. However, the final decision on this matter was not publicly announced.

I will believe it when I see it. Sweden’s help for Ukraine has been woefully inadequate. As it seeks safety with a NATO membership, it lets Ukraine hang.

    • I’m not a big fan of the archer even though I’m sure if they get it AFU will make good use of it. Really right now Ukraine needs tracked armor and art kits to keep momentum in mud, slush, or snow and to not be as limited to main roadways.

    • Well, it seems to be a capable system, but there must be a reason why they don’t sell well in international markets. As far as mud and snow is concerned, the Archer doesn’t have tracks, but it does have a very good ground clearance and good-sized tires.
