Toyota Motor Corp has decided to stop car production at its only plant in Russia. The move is unusual for a company that has still built cars in factories in Japan since its founding in the 1930s.

It is reported by Bloomberg , citing a statement from the company.

It is noted that the automaker suspended work at its plant in St. Petersburg in March. Despite this, Toyota kept all employees at work and kept the plant ready to resume production when circumstances permit.

“After six months, we have not been able to resume normal operations and do not see any signs that we will be able to resume operations in the future,” the company explained.

Toyota said that the corporation’s activities in Moscow need to be optimized and restructured. It is not yet known what action she will take. The company has pledged to continue to maintain its retail network and serve existing customers in Russia.
