Shoigu says 5,937 Russian soldiers have died in Ukraine

In the first announcement in months, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in an interview to the Rossiya-24 TV channel that 5,937 Russian servicemen have died during the war in Ukraine.

As for the wounded, almost 90% of them have already returned to service, he added.

At the same time, the head of the Defense Ministry claims that Ukraine has already lost half of its army during the war: 61,207 dead, 49,368 wounded.

During wartime, it’s impossible to quickly verify the information disseminated by official representatives of the parties to the conflict

Over the course of the entire war, the Russian Defense Ministry has only twice reported its losses. The last time was on March 25. At that time, the ministry said that 1,351 Russian servicemen had been killed and another 3,825 wounded during the hostilities in Ukraine.

As of September 21, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces puts the number of Russian casualties in the war at 55,110.
