Germany approves sale of 18 RCH-155 self-propelled guns to Ukraine – media

According to journalists, the contract for the supply of 18 wheeled howitzers with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann is worth 216 million euros.

The German federal government has approved the sale of 18 RCH-155 self-propelled artillery mounts to Ukraine. Kyiv asked them two months ago.

This is reported by the German newspaper  Welt am Sonntag .

The contract for the supply of 18 wheeled howitzers with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann is worth 216 million euros. Heads of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov and German Christine Lambrecht discussed this deal back in mid-July.

According to Welt am Sonntag, citing sources from the Ukrainian side, the parties discussed the sale of the RCH-155 several times, in recent weeks Germany has not given any answer.

Positive news for Ukraine appeared on Friday. Then the ex-Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk confirmed that the German government had given the green light to the sale of the RCH-155.

“This will be a significant contribution to strengthening the effectiveness of the Ukrainian military. I hope that the federal government will continue to follow this path consistently,” the diplomat said, adding that he hopes for further cooperation.

According to the newspaper, Ukraine will be able to receive the RCH-155 self-propelled guns no earlier than 30 months after the conclusion of the contract, that is, already in 2025. 

According to  “Militarny” , the RCH-155 is a wheeled self-propelled artillery mount with an L52 cannon. A firing range of up to 54 kilometers is declared with V-LAP high-precision projectiles at a speed of nine rounds per minute.

Weight SAU-39 tons. The maximum speed is 100 km/h. The maximum mileage on one gas station is up to 700 kilometers.
