On the evening of September 2, the Russian gas company Gazprom announced a complete halt to the flow of gas through the Nord Stream pipeline for an indefinite period.

This is stated in the message of the company in Telegram .

Gazprom announced a malfunction in the only Portovaya compressor station, which continues to operate.

The company claims that during routine maintenance at the Trent 60 gas pumping unit of the Portovaya compressor station, they discovered “an oil leak with an admixture of a sealing compound through the connectors of the terminal connections of the cable lines of the low and intermediate pressure rotor speed sensors.”

“Until the remarks on the operation of the equipment are eliminated, the transport of gas to the Nord Stream gas pipeline has been completely stopped,” the company said in a statement.

The European Commission believes that the Russian company Gazprom announced the closure of the Nord Stream gas pipeline under a false pretext. This statement was made by the speaker of the European Commission Eric Mamer.

“Gazprom’s announcement this afternoon that it is once again shutting down Nord Stream on false grounds is further confirmation of its unreliability as a supplier. It is also proof of Russia’s cynicism as it prefers to flare gas instead of fulfill contracts,” he tweeted .

Earlier it was reported that  Gazprom suspended gas supplies to Europe via Nord Stream .
