In addition, about 200 streets will soon be de-Russified in Odessa.

This was reported to journalists in the press service of the mayor’s office with reference to the deputy mayor Pavel Vugelman.

It is noted that a meeting of the historical and toponymic commission was held, the results of which were told by Vugelman, who is its chairman.

According to him, the list of renames has already increased to more than 200. New names, new toponyms are being worked out by a special working group that consults with the population, historians and local historians.

“We took a comprehensive approach to the issue of renaming streets. There is a certain concept according to which we will propose certain names. For example, one microdistrict will have street names in honor of famous composers, another microdistrict will have the names of our sister cities,” Vugelman said. .

He noted that all renaming will go through public hearings and be considered at the City Council session.

“These are people (their names will be assigned to the streets – UNIAN) who really made a huge contribution to the history of the city, who deserve such great respect,” Vugelman stressed.

As UNIAN reported earlier, a huge flag of Ukraine was unfurled at Mayak in Odessa on the occasion of the Day of the State Flag of  Ukraine .

  1. I would be very surprised if all russification wasn’t removed from the whole Country, it certainly should be after this war.

  2. The ruskie mir is shrinking ever more.
This trend is ongoing across the country and even in other former soviet republics, where ruskie names of streets and places and monuments are changed and demolished.
