Salman Rushdie:

Briton of Indian origin. Author of many books, including the novel “Satanic Verses”. The book was considered blasphemous by many Muslims, and in 1988 Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa ordering the assassination of Rushdie.

For the head of a writer living in the West, one Iranian Islamic foundation promises $3.3 million.

The writer was in hiding for many years, and his repentance could not convince the Iranian authorities to cancel the fatwa.

On February 21, 2016, Iranian media added a $600,000 surcharge to the price of Rushdie’s murder. In the same year, he received US citizenship.

Rushdie is the recipient of the 1981 Booker Prize for Midnight’s Children.
