The US believes that the Russians have begun drone training in Iran. This is a sign that Russia is intent on acquiring these systems as the war in Ukraine continues.

“Over the past few weeks, Russian officials have been conducting exercises in Iran as part of an agreement to transfer UAVs from Iran to Russia,” a US official told CNN. The official said intelligence about the exercise had recently been declassified.

CNN reported for the first time last month that a Russian delegation has visited an airfield in central Iran at least twice since June to inspect combat drones.play video

Then it was reported that Iran demonstrated the Shahed-191 and Shahed-129 drones to Russia. Both types of drones are capable of carrying precision-guided missiles.

In July, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that Iran intends to sell hundreds of drones to Russia, which could later be used in the war against Ukraine.

The Russians are reportedly struggling to replenish their supplies, forcing them to turn to Iran for equipment.

As previously reported, in search of weapons for waging a bloody war against Ukraine, Russia can import them on commercial ships from Syria  – since the ships do not qualify as military, Turkey passes them through the Bosphorus.

  1. More anti drone measures need to be developed and issued, but more so now than ever before a NATO blockade involving inspections of vessels headed to russia is needed.

  2. One trash country working together with another trash country. What will the answer from the West be about this newest development? Crickets?
