Russia ‘s Gazprom is flaring gas destined for export to the European Union on the border with Finland. This process has been going on since the end of May, when the company reduced supplies to the EU.

The Finnish edition of Yle shared the relevant information .

Burning takes place near the Portovaya compressor station and the LNG terminal of the same name. Satellite imagery from NASA’s fire monitoring system showed that the process began on May 22. It was then that Gazprom reduced the transit of gas to the European Union and stopped using the pipeline to its full capacity, although the EU paid for the supplies in full.

At the end of May, burning was recorded outside the territory of the LNG terminal. And in mid-June, a fire appeared near the compressor station. Then “Gazprom” almost tripled the supply of gas – from 167 million cubic meters. m up to 67 million cubic meters. m. Gas continues to be burned in large volumes for several weeks, and huge fiery torches are visible even from the territory of Finland.
