They banned the import of gold and froze the assets of Sberbank.
Switzerland has joined the EU sanctions against Russia. The official statement of the Swiss authorities says that the new measures concern a ban on the purchase, import and transportation of gold and gold items from Russia.
According to Radio Liberty , services related to these goods are also prohibited.
The sanctions also include an asset freeze for Sberbank, which will now be barred from providing funds, economic resources and technical services.
The Swiss government also mirrored the exceptions made earlier by the EU: operations of state-owned companies related to the supply of food and fertilizers to the world market and the transportation of oil to third countries are removed from the sanctions. This decision of the EU was associated with guaranteeing food and energy security.
In addition, sanctions have been imposed against 54 Russian citizens and nine companies. The list of individuals and organizations against which Switzerland has imposed sanctions in connection with the war in Ukraine is identical to the list of the EU, the press release says.
The list of EU sanctions previously included First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Andrei Belousov, State Duma Deputy from Chechnya Adam Delimkhanov, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, actors Vladimir Mashkov and Sergei Bezrukov, the Night Wolves bike club and its leader Alexander Zaldostanov (Surgeon) ), the governor of the Kemerovo region Sergey Tsivilev, the Commissioner for Children’s Rights under the President Maria Lvova-Belova, the Yunarmiya movement and others.
Previously, Canada, Great Britain, Japan and the United States introduced a ban on the import of gold from Russia.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the European Union warned against hopes that the Russian Federation would fall under the pressure of Western sanctions .
