The security forces reported to the president about the motives of the Russian side and the technical preparations for the crime.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with representatives of law enforcement agencies on the terrorist act of Russian invaders in Yelenovka and noted that there is plenty of evidence that this was a planned crime.
The meeting was attended by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov, Acting Chairman of the Security Service Vasyl Malyuk and Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets.
“They reported in detail to the head of state about the terrorist attack that took place today in Yelenovka in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region, the motives of the Russian side and the technical preparation for the crime,” the report says.play video
Representatives of the power structures of Ukraine expressed a consolidated position regarding the events in Yelenovka, which was enshrined in their joint statement regarding the massacre of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Zelensky in his Telegram channel on this meeting noted: “We discussed in detail the terrorist attack organized by Russian monsters in Yelenovka, as a result of which more than 50 captured Ukrainian defenders were cynically killed. There is enough evidence that this was a planned crime. And this is another confirmation of the fact that that Russia is a terrorist state.
He added that the UN and the ICRC, which were supposed to guarantee the preservation of the life and health of Ukrainian prisoners of war, should immediately respond.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on the night of July 29, an explosion was heard on the territory of the former correctional colony No. 210 in the Yelenovka village in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region. As a result, the building was destroyed, which contained Ukrainian prisoners of war, withdrawn from the Azovstal plant.
Immediately after the explosion, Russia accused the Armed Forces of Ukraine of shelling the penal colony. According to the Russian side, more than 50 Ukrainian defenders died, the number of wounded is unknown. The Ukrainian law enforcement agencies said that the explosion in Olenevka was a Russian terrorist act, with the aim of hiding war crimes, discrediting the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and disrupting the supply of weapons. They demand that the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross immediately respond to the terrorist attack and send an inspection mission to the territory of the colony.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the attack was carried out by mercenaries from the PMC “Wagner” (League) on the personal instructions of the nominal owner of the said Freight One, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
