British Prime Minister Boris Johnson presented Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with the Sir Winston Churchill Leadership Award.

This is stated in the message of the British Embassy in Ukraine in Facebook .

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson today presented Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with the Sir Winston Churchill Leadership Award for his incredible courage, resistance and dignity in the face of Putin’s barbaric invasion.

It is also said that the UK will always be with Ukraine.

According to the press service of the President’s Office , Zelensky was awarded the Winston Churchill Prize for leadership of the Winston Churchill International Society. The head of state took part in the award ceremony via videoconference.

Lawrence Geller, Chairman of the International Society, noted during the inclusion that events and phenomena are taking place today that have not happened since the time of Churchill 80 years ago.

“Democracy in Europe is now under the threat of tyranny, and this threat is stopped by leadership and heroism. Like Winston Churchill, President Zelensky shows that tyranny should not succeed, that people should have the right to choose their own path and their lives,” he said. Geller.

He also noted the role of the UK under Prime Minister Johnson in strengthening the ability of a democracy to defend itself and deter aggression.

For his part, Johnson noted that after the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Zelensky proved his leadership.

“When the Russians began to advance on Kyiv, you knew that you would be their target. You could leave Kyiv, because the survival of the Ukrainian state then depended on the survival of its president. But you chose to stay in Kyiv, with the Ukrainian people, just like Churchill stayed in London in 1940. And you said then: “I need weapons,” recalled the head of the British government.

According to him, Zelensky, like Churchill in his time, overcomes super-difficult trials and inspires with his leadership.

Thanks for the award, the President of Ukraine noted that this award embodies not only his efforts, but also the heroism of tens of thousands of Ukrainians who distinguished themselves in battles with the Russian aggressor.

He also expressed his conviction that Ukrainians and European history will always remember those who did not hesitate to come to the aid of the Ukrainian people and the idea of freedom in general. In particular, the president noted Johnson’s leadership.

The award, which was awarded to the head of the Ukrainian state, was handed over to the Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK Vadim Prystaiko for her delivery to her homeland.

As UNIAN reported earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson intends to visit Ukraine before he finally resigns. He wants to visit the capital of Ukraine for the third time after February 24.

Zelensky deserves it! There are many others who, being in his shoes, would’ve crapped in their panties or fled the country or given up.
