Even now, the Russians place military equipment near residential buildings.
The Russian military threatens to completely destroy Melitopol if they retreat.
Ivan Fedorov, mayor of the city, spoke about this in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine .
“I heard one thing from more than one person. The occupiers say that if they leave Melitopol, and the fact that they assume this is already good … They say: “If we leave the city, everything is mined , everything will be destroyed.” And this is definitely not about ensuring the security of our infrastructure,” Fedorov said.
According to the mayor, even now the Russians have all military equipment and military facilities near residential high-rise buildings.
“They are shooting, and our troops cannot respond in a mirror manner,” Fedorov explained.
He added that now it is possible to leave Melitopol. However, the queues for departure in Vasilievka are very long. People have to spend several nights in the field to go to the free territory.
“Now there is a second wave of evacuation, for about 3 weeks already. The first was at the beginning of a full-scale war. We expect the third wave at the beginning of the heating season,” Fedorov summed up.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on July 19, the Vice Prime Minister – Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories announced that the Ukrainian government plans to evacuate several tens of thousands of people from the occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
