Russia’s missile attack on the port of Odessa “probably did not technically violate” the agreements signed in Istanbul to unblock sea grain exports from Ukraine.

This was stated by one of the top officials of the United Nations on condition of anonymity, writes  The New York Times.

According to the official, Russia may not have technically violated the agreement by launching a missile attack on the port of Odessa, since it was not obliged to refrain from strikes on those parts of Ukrainian ports that are not directly involved in grain exports. In his opinion, if there was a military target somewhere nearby, Russia may have taken advantage of this loophole in the document.

Attack on the port of Odessa: what is known

On the morning of July 23,  Russian troops attacked Odessa with four missiles . It was reported about the hit in the Odessa Sea Commercial Port.

When Russian missiles attacked the Odessa seaport, grain was waiting to be sent there. Yuri Ignat, a representative of the Air Force Command, confirmed on the air of the telethon that the Russians  got exactly where it was.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said that the  rocket attack on the port of Odessa is a spit in the face of Russian President Vladimir Putin  in the face of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN Secretary General António Guterres.

They called on the UN and Turkey to ensure that Russia complies with its obligations within the framework of the safe functioning of the grain corridor.

A few hours after the Russian attack on the Odessa seaport, where grain was awaiting shipment,  the UN reacted to the crime of the Russians . UN Secretary General António Guterres “unreservedly condemned the strikes on the Ukrainian port of Odessa.” But once again he did not call Russia responsible for the missile attack and violation of the agreements.

  1. “In his opinion, if there was a military target somewhere nearby, Russia may have taken advantage of this loophole in the document.”

It sounds to me like the UN are saying it’s OK for Russia to launch missiles at any target in this illegitimate war.
