Lend-Lease is not a priority, the White House

The White House reported that the supply of arms to Ukraine within the framework of lend-lease is not a priority for the US government, because currently military aid is provided under “more beneficial” programs for Ukraine.

“At the moment, we are prioritizing security assistance for Ukraine, for which they will not need to return the funds later,” said a White House official at the Voice of America ‘s request .

He added that the Lend-Lease program provides for the return of funds for the equipment received, while other programs under which the United States currently provides assistance to Ukraine, such as the USAI (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative) and the Presidential Authorization Program (usually removing weapons from the Pentagon’s stockpile ), do not provide for refunds.

The latest transfers of American weapons to Ukraine take place under these programs. Currently, the Administration of the President of the United States uses funds allocated by the Congress of the United States for them. It’s a $40 billion package, most of which is earmarked for military aid and related spending. These funds must be spent by the end of the US fiscal year, which falls at the end of September.

For his part, John Kirby, the coordinator of the US National Security and Strategic Communications Council, added in an interview with Voice of America that the administration is still considering the powers provided by the lend-lease program.

It will be recalled that the law on lend-lease, among other things, expands the powers of the US president in agreements regarding the supply of military aid to Ukraine. In fact, it allows lending or leasing military equipment under simplified export control procedures.

It allows the White House to provide weapons, equipment, ammunition and dual-use products to Ukraine under an accelerated procedure, that is, without waiting for a special allocation of funds for this by the US Congress.

The Lend-Lease program last operated during World War II, when American military aid was supplied to opponents of Nazi Germany, primarily Great Britain and the USSR.

That sounds good to me … as long as the amount suffices.

Then, why isn’t more being sent? In particular, HIMARS and long-range missiles for them?

      • Is there even one Western leader who puts his money where his or her mouth is? Are cowards, liars and amateurs all that we have in our politics?
