Romania has restored a Soviet-era railway line on its territory linking its Danube river port of Galati with Ukraine to help boost Ukrainian grain exports.

This was announced by the Minister of Transport of the country, Sorin Grindianu, writes Bloomberg .

He specified that the works were started on June 6 and completed almost a month earlier than expected.

“From now on, freight trains going from Ukraine through the Republic of Moldova can unload grain directly at the port of Galatza, without the need to reload it at the border,” the minister explained.

He added that the restoration of the railway section will also allow grain to be stored in the elevator located in the port with a capacity of 25,000 tons.

As reported, in the four months since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine managed to export only 5.2 million tons of agricultural products, while until February 24, the country shipped 4-5 million tons of grain to foreign markets every month through sea ports.

Previously, the head of “Ukrzaliznytsia” Oleksandr Kamyshin stated in June that the railway company will not be able to increase the export of Ukrainian grain through the western border in the necessary volume, given the limited capabilities of the European infrastructure. Джерело: https://biz.censor.net/n3352761
