For several months now, the Kyiv region has been recovering from the Russian invasion and is digesting the consequences of the “second army’s desire” to march on Khreshchatyk. In the forests near Kyiv, on the former “bridgehead” of the Russians, Ukrainian volunteers are being trained so that history can not repeat itself.
In the spring, during the “blitzkrieg”, the Russian occupiers began to disperse a giant column of armored vehicles, arranged for it a whole complex of protective structures in the forests of Kiev region. It is estimated that there were thousands of armored vehicles in one area alone, and that about 15-20,000 racists could live nearby in the dugouts – crews, service personnel, and others.
UNIAN spoke with Bucha’s volunteers, who are burying the memory of the occupation in the ground, and the former Russian fortifications are used for training.
- “It was almost impossible to” dig them out “
- “Collective brine – from the Moscow region to Barnaul and Arkhangelsk”
- “If you open my phone, you can turn gray”
- “We see the same thing”
“It was almost impossible to” dig them out “
“We call this place ‘Mordor.’
This terrible area is located in the hinterland, many kilometers from the most popular satellite towns of the capital of Ukraine. Around – the perfect scenery. Wheat rises, an unploughed field abounds in flowers, and the forest completes the picture. It was there that the occupiers hid their equipment. It was not difficult to imagine how many of them there were. In the spring, it was reported that an impressive column of armored vehicles, artillery, and trucks was seen in these parts , which stretched for 40 kilometers.
The occupiers moved from Belarus, hurried to Kyiv “for a parade”. They were stopped, forced to disperse, to hide.
Along the usual unpaved road for Russians dug caponiers – protective structures in which “dived” armored vehicles to hide from shelling.
Nearby is a field dug by our shells, you can’t sow wheat, and they (Russian troops, – UNIAN) fired in the direction of Bucha. It was almost impossible to “dig out” them. they go through caponiers “, – the chief of staff of Buchansky (DFTG), colonel Andrey” Veles “Verlaty tells.
Caponier reliably protects the equipment. Only a direct hit could destroy it. And, as we were told, the locals, risking their lives, obtained coordinates for our artillery. Knowing the forest like the back of their hand, they approached from the rear, where the Russians did not expect it, and then transmitted coordinates using a mobile phone hidden in the same forest. The call from the village was impossible: the phone was intercepted almost immediately.
“Collective brine – from the Moscow region to Barnaul and Arkhangelsk”
“In the boxes of shells, we found” packing sheets “of various units. Judging by them, there was, in fact, a prefabricated brine – from the Moscow region to Barnaul and Arkhangelsk,” – says Andrew “Veles” Verlaty.
It can be stated that the Russians dug into this Ukrainian land for a long time: in a month they built a whole complex, about 7,000 caponiers, dugouts.
Now, after demining, you can look into the dugouts of the occupiers. The “burrows” of the Buryats are easily identified by a very low ceiling, they are difficult to squeeze. Doors were attached to the officers’ dugouts, but not to save heat. Russian commanders were ahead of the “evil” marauders. The loot was dragged like rats to its burrow, closed so that its own would not stretch what had already been stolen.
“Everything was pulled out in the neighboring villages, even the curtains were removed. Laptops were shot in our woods (why shoot a gaming laptop for a thousand dollars ?!), washing machines stood in the middle of lawns, toilets. And stolen linen can still be seen in the trees.” , – volunteers tell.
Much has been written about the “good” security of the occupiers. Judging by the dugouts, even the officers did not have basic mats, otherwise why would they cover the sleeping area with pine needles? We have something similar can be seen only in Soviet books on wild tourism.
“If you open my phone, you can turn gray”
This forest will remain terrible for a long time. Until recently, the remains of Ukrainians tortured to death were found here.
“They found the bones, and I understand that they were not dogs stretched. The man was cut alive,” says Veles. “These people are unworthy to be called people, they are really orcs.”
After Bucha’s release, volunteers recorded the crimes and passed them on to investigators.
The police worked, the National Guard, but there were not enough people. By the end of April, people were found in the basements… These were terrible pictures. in high spirits “… If you open my phone, you can turn gray,” – says “Veles”.
Another terrible reminder of the occupation is the banners that did not explode, or even just shells thrown out of cars (soldiers and officers of the Russian army, fleeing from Kyiv region, threw everything out of cars to load the loot).
“There were more than one group of sappers, they worked for about a month and a half, but a lot remained here. We are still removing the stretch marks, there are still mines in the ground,” says Veles.
He recalls how they worked in Bucha: “There were a lot of such bad stretch marks. The grenade is lying on the ground, pressed by a piece of wood to keep the check from bouncing. Such grenades are near playgrounds, footpaths. would hit… And the grenade f1 flies for many meters. It would maim people, many people… “.
“Are these people?” Veles repeats the rhetorical question.
We ask about mushroom growers if they go to the forest, knowing about the danger. Volunteers confirm – go.
“Wolves say ‘thank you’ to them. You don’t even have to chew what’s left,” they joke or take the military seriously.
“We see the same thing”
During the visit of UNIAN, Ukrainian volunteers were trained on the former positions of the Russians – the work of groups in the forest was practiced. What the occupiers left behind turned out to be a “wonderful” training ground. After all, there is no doubt that the Russians follow the same patterns, and they need to be studied.
We see the same thing everywhere. For example, armored personnel carriers are buried at intersections as follows: there is a visible armored personnel carrier, usually Soviet-style, the one that wears out immediately, then – “beha” is low, so that only the tower is visible, and then – three more – cover all directions. And besides – one more link – three more “, – Andrey” Veles “Verlaty tells.
However, in the future there are no plans to leave the former Russian caponiers and dugouts as a landfill or museum.
“Belarus has announced exercises, their and Russia’s troops on the border. Remember what happened after the winter exercises? There is no nation like Ukrainians for them, no country like Ukraine. There is a possibility that they will advance in this direction. “That’s why we’re trying to destroy the Russians’ buildings so they can’t use them again,” said the volunteers.
Ukrainian soldiers are preparing. The Armed Forces blocked, fired at possible directions. And they promise: it will not be possible to come to us as easily as in February.
