The White House hopes that the new weapons, sanctions and diplomatic isolation of Russia will influence the final conclusion of the war through negotiations, reducing the willingness of Vladimir Putin to continue the fight.
According to WP, Washington is working to ensure that Russia cannot “swallow” Ukraine, because this will provoke Putin to aggression against other countries.
“For us, the benchmark is that the consequence of Russia’s ability to achieve its maximalist aspirations will be very bad for the United States, very bad for our partners and allies, and no less bad for the whole world,” the State Department official said.
