She acknowledged that during the last year of her tenure, attempts to resolve the conflict had failed.

Former German chancellor Angela Merkel believes that her resignation as head of the federal government may have influenced Putin’s decision to attack Ukraine on February 24.

She expressed this opinion in an interview with RND .

“Perhaps my resignation contributed to (the Russian invasion), as did the elections in France, the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and the decline in the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” Merkel suggested.

She acknowledged that during the last year of her tenure, attempts to resolve the conflict had failed.

In the same interview, Merkel did not rule out that she could again become an intermediary for settling hostilities between Ukraine and Russia.

Merkel has previously said that she does not consider herself guilty of Putin’s large-scale aggression. However, the ex-chancellor admitted that she “failed to create a security architecture that could prevent this.”

  1. That’s Merkel! She hardly ever admits any mistakes that she’s committed. When the rare occasion does happen that she admits something, it’s a vastly watered down version of a major fuck up. Like this one:
“She acknowledged that during the last year of her tenure, attempts to resolve the conflict had failed.”

Her failures with the rodent go as far back as the start of her tenure. Doing business and treating a criminal like Putler like an equal, after the atrocities of Georgia, Chechnya and Syria, stealing the Crimea and starting a war in Donbas, are major mistakes that cannot be ignored or watered down. Period!

  3. If she had not roled over and given Putin everything he wanted in Minsk II and instead negiciated an acceptable cease fire this war would be over.
MinskII was one step away from unconditional surrender. Putin would have had to have been occuping Kyiv for that to be acceptable.
But Angie let him have his treaty of surrendered soveringity. Ukraine sitll had plenty of fight left in them and never were willing to accept that.
So here we are tosay with upwards of 60k dead on both sides.
    Angie real great fucking job!
