Occupation authorities of the “LNR” have admitted that they ruined the tram service, and the rails are being dismantled and handed over for remelting. This follows from the statement of so-called “mayor” of the city occupied in 2014 Manolis Pilavov in an interview with the propaganda media.
“We are dismantling the rails. Experts said that these rails are unusable, they have only one way – to be melted down… The money that we will receive will be used to pay wages. There will be no tram and trolleybus fleet in the city of Luhansk, at least in the near future”, – he stated.
The pseudo-mayor also added that back in 2015, the city’s tram and trolleybus fleet lost almost all of its rolling stock, “the entire tram fleet simply turned into scrap metal”.
As previously reported, the trolleybus traffic in Alchevsk, Luhansk oblast, which is controlled by the “LNR” militants, has been gradually declining since 2014. Compared to pre-war 2013, the number of electric vehicles on the streets of Alchevsk has more than halved.
There were two trolleybus depots in Alchevsk in the early 2000s. In 1992-2008, trolleybus depot No.1 carried out the functions of repairing trolleybuses, and trolleybus depot No.2 – production of trolleybuses on the line. Until 2008, a suburban trolleybus line to Perevalsk operated in Alchevsk, about 10 kilometers long.
