Russia claims its slow progress attacking Ukraine is to help people evacuate, not because it can’t win

Russia’s defense minister said that his country’s slow progress in the past few days of its invasion of Ukraine were deliberate and designed to help people evacuate, despite widespread evidence that Russia is struggling in its efforts.

Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday: “For residents to leave the surrounded settlements, silence regimes are announced and humanitarian corridors are created. Of course, this slows down the pace of the offensive, but this is done deliberately in order to avoid civilian casualties,” Russia’s state-run news agency RIA Novosti reported.

He also repeated Russia’s claims that its army does not target civilian infrastructure, despite widespread evidence that it has been doing so across Ukraine since the early days of its invasion.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has stalled and slowed in the face of strong resistance from Ukraine. Western intelligence said Russia expected to capture the country in a few days. Instead, three months on, Russia has ceded many areas back to Ukraine.

What started as an assault on much of Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, has turned into a battle focused in the east, near Russia’s border.

Western officials have also noted that Russia has not been making quick progress in the region as it faces logistical issues.

Russia has also interrupted the evacuations of civilians during its invasion.

Ukraine has repeatedly paused plans to evacuate people through humanitarian corridors, saying that Russia fired on them.

This is almost as pathetic as the reason they come out with after getting destroyed trying to attack Kyiv. If you recall, their excuse for scurrying back to Belarus was done out of “good will” according to Putler.

    • F1:
What military experts from both sides and the putinazis have been telegraphing since the start of the genocide is in fact now happening. Ukraine faces a catastrophe unless its only reliable friends Boris/Biden/Duda step in now with air and sea power. The help they have given so far is too little and much too late.

If putler is allowed to take the Donbas, there will be no negotiations. He will go on indefinitely until the whole country is a slave dominion.

From Telegraph Live right now :

“Russian troops are just 25km away from encircling Ukraine’s elite special forces in a potential major victory for Vladimir Putin in the Donbas.
Russia’s capture of the Severodonetsk region would see the whole of Luhansk Oblast placed under Russian occupation, the Ministry of Defence has warned. The operation, which is currently Moscow’s main focus, is only one part of their campaign to seize the Donbas.
If the Donbas frontline moved further west, the MoD said it would extend Russian lines of communication and likely lead to forces facing further logistic resupply difficulties.
“Russia has increased the intensity of its operations in the Donbas as it seeks to encircle Severodonetsk, Lyschansk, and Rubizhne,” the MoD said in a statement on Twitter.
“At present the northern and southern axes of this operation are separated by approximately 25kms of Ukrainian-held territory.”
“There has been strong Ukrainian resistance with forces occupying well dug-in defensive positions. Ukraine’s long-established Joint Force Operation likely retains effective command and control of this front.”

        • He’s a good guy. And I have subscribed.
But the tendency of pro-Ukraine bloggers, including the superb Robin Horsfall, to maintain an over-optimistic narrative, is in my view unwittingly dangerous. Putler, like all dictators, is under no time constraints, still has unlimited funds, no viable opposition, no shortage of orcs and no backlash from orc mothers; who are as vile as Palestinian terror mothers in that they are happy to send their kids to rape and murder Ukrainians. If they die in the process that seems ok to them too, as they died for putler.
Zel has been aware of this possible disaster in Luhansk for a few days, hence the dire warnings. But what he needs is a massive ramping up of support from the allies.

        • The fact remains that putler is already holding 20% of Ukrainian territory; as much as he has of Georgia, so it’s going well for the bastard.
Zel needs a major victory now, just to stay in the game. The satellite info must be clear to the allies. Now what will they do to help Ukraine? A few more howitzers ain’t going to do it.

The supply of lame excuses in mafia land is as endless as their lies, and just as ridiculous. If that was anywhere near the truth, then the cockroaches wouldn’t be targeting civilians continuously!
