For example, Ukrainians are pushing back Russian troops east and north of Kharkov, the ministry official said.

The M777 155mm towed howitzers , supplied by the United States, and other types supplied to Ukraine by allied and partner countries, have a major impact on the battlefield.

This was stated at a press briefing at the Pentagon by a senior Defense Department official.

“You can already see that the Ukrainians are ready to launch a counteroffensive in the Donbas. They are returning some cities that the Russians have already taken in the past,” the official said.

For example, Ukrainians are pushing back Russian troops east and north of Kharkov, the official said.

“We really believe that howitzers … have an impact, especially in Kharkiv. Is that the only reason? Not only the US systems, but the systems of other countries – absolutely help them gain momentum and take back part of the territory,” the official said.

During a meeting with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that 74 of the 90 M777 artillery pieces are already in combat, providing long-range indirect fire.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine is receiving 155-mm  M777 howitzers from the United States, Canada and Australia , AS90 howitzers from the UK, and Gepard anti-aircraft tanks from Germany.

On May 3, Kirby stated that most of the planned howitzers had already been delivered to Ukraine. In particular, in total we are talking about 90 units of artillery systems.

  1. I’m pleased that the new howitzers are making a positive impact. Pun intended.
