The representative of the Verkhovna Rada in the Constitutional Court, Olga Sovgirya, said that almost seven years after the adoption of the so-called “law on decommunization,” the Communist Party was finally banned in Ukraine.

She announced this in her Telegram channel .

“More than six years after the adoption of the so-called ‘law on decommunization’, the Communist Party has been finally banned in Ukraine,” she said.

Sovgirya recalled that the “Law on decommunization” (No. 317-VIII dated April 9, 2015) was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada back in 2015.

“They provided for the condemnation of the communist regime and the ban on propaganda of its symbols, but the issue of banning the Communist Party of Ukraine was to be decided by the court,” she said.

The District Administrative Court of Kyiv, by its decision of December 16, 2015 in case No. 826/15408/15, terminated the activities of the KPU, but this decision was appealed on appeal and did not enter into force, recalled Sovgirya.

“All this time, the Communist Party of Ukraine continued to exist and even received membership fees, although it was excluded from the electoral process. Recently, the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal completed consideration of the appeal in this case and refused to satisfy it, as a result of which the court’s decision to ban the Communist Party Ukraine has entered into force,” the deputy stated.

      • It is difficult for a free nation to ban anything but Ukraine has tried to prevent the past from reoccurring. It was easy to ban the nazi symbols and parties but though Soviet/Communist parties are just as bad, it has been difficult. No matter how small they are, evil is evil and I’m glad this should be the end of it..
