Zelensky signs law banning pro-Russian political parties

The Law shall enter into force on the day following the day of its publication.

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law banning pro-Russian political parties  in Ukraine.

This was announced by the representative of the Verkhovna Rada in the Constitutional Court Olga Sovgirya in her Telegram channel.play video

“The President of Ukraine has signed a law banning pro-Russian political parties,” she said.

The Law shall enter into force on the day following the day of its publication.

The law on the prohibition of pro-Russian parties in Ukraine: what is known

As UNIAN reported earlier, on May 3, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine regarding the ban on political parties (No. 7172-1).  330 people’s deputies voted for the adoption of the relevant decision.

The creation and activities of political parties are prohibited if their program goals or actions are aimed at justifying, recognizing as lawful, denying armed aggression against Ukraine, including by presenting the armed aggression of Russia and / or Belarus against Ukraine as an internal conflict, civil conflict, civil war, denial of the temporary occupation of a part of Ukrainian territory.
