The internal instruction for intelligence officers imposes two prohibitions on the relevant types of information.
One category of prohibition, intelligence sharing, refers to any information that would help Ukraine attack Russian facilities outside its borders.
The purpose of the ban is to keep the United States from participating in possible attacks that “Ukraine can carry out inside Russia.”
Intelligence cooperation between Kyiv and Washington now includes information on the location and movement of Russian troops that Ukraine receives “in real time”, satellite imagery and reports compiled from confidential American sources in the United States.
In addition, now the United States will not be able to provide detailed information that would help Ukraine eliminate members of the Russian military leadership of the highest rank, including Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
However, this ban does not apply to Russian generals. At the same time, according to a senior American official, the US government has decided not to provide information about their whereabouts in Ukraine either.
