Russian contractors are already disconnected from the booking systems of many international cruise companies.
Several of the world’s largest cruise lines, including Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and Costa Cruises, have suspended sales and new bookings for tourists from Russia and Belarus.
This was reported in the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) .play video
“Cruise companies of the Carnival Corporation group have suspended sales and new bookings for the Russian market. For example, agents – partners of Costa Cruises – received a message from the operator that they would no longer accept applications for cruises from “citizens residing in the territory of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus , as well as on the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine,” the message says.
In addition, it is reported that, according to data from open sources, Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Cunard Line, Holland America Line Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Seabourn Cruise Line also took similar steps earlier in May, but without official notice.
Costa Cruises, in an official notice, indicated that such a decision is connected with sanctions against the Russian Federation by a number of states.
Interviewed by Vestnik ATOR, Russian tour operators and agents who have collaborated with Costa Cruises and other companies report that, commenting on the situation for partners, Costa Cruises explains such a decision as “financial risks”.
According to the clarification from the company, a Russian citizen will be able to go on a cruise on their liner if he has at least a residence permit of another country (that is, he lives outside Russia), will use a bank account of another country to pay and book a trip with a foreign travel agency.
It is also noted that Russian counterparties are disconnected from the booking systems of many of these international cruise companies, therefore they are not able to send tourists on their ships on a cruise by booking from the Russian Federation. And Costa Cruises does not work directly with individuals.
Costa Cruises, in turn, reports that existing and already confirmed bookings will not be canceled, however, the company specifies that certain unexplained “peculiarities of the sanctions regime” will also be taken into account in their implementation.
“Bookings for travelers residing (that is, physically located) in Russia, Belarus, Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine are active, but will be considered subject to the sanctions regime in relation to payments, refunds and other issues that fall under the restriction,” – explained in an appeal to Russian partners.
