Despite the reduction of Russian gas transit through Ukraine, Germany has no plans to use the new Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, which has never been put into operation.

This was stated by the representative of the Ministry of Economy of Germany Annika Eingorn at a briefing, Ukrinform reports .

“The Nord Stream-2 pipeline is really dead after the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine,” Aingorn said.

She stressed that “security of energy supply in Germany is currently guaranteed.”

The spokeswoman assured that the ministry and the Gaz crisis headquarters are closely monitoring the situation and the latest developments.

The volume of transit through Ukraine has decreased by 25% compared to the previous day, but is offset by supplies from other countries, including Norway and the Netherlands, Aingorn said. She added that the volume of gas supplies by these partners could be increased. In addition, Germany’s main channel for receiving Russian gas is now the Nord Stream-1 pipeline.

The representative of the Ministry of Economy informed that gas storage facilities are constantly being filled, now they are filled by 38.6%.

The Federal Network Agency also stated that it is closely monitoring the possible impact of reducing gas transit through Ukraine on Germany and Europe. Now the energy supply in Germany is stable, energy security is guaranteed.

As reported, on March 1, the Swiss media, citing officials in the canton of Zug , reported that Nord Stream 2 AG was insolvent and all 106 employees were fired. Nord Stream 2 AG then stated that it “does not confirm” the announcement of the commencement of bankruptcy proceedings, explaining the dismissal of staff by US sanctions.

Later, the German newspaper Stuttgarter Zeitung, citing the CEO of Nord Stream 2 AG Matthias Varnig, said that the operating company will still apply for bankruptcy in the coming days. It was also noted that the company will ask the Zug court to impose a “temporary moratorium” on debt collection from the company.

It will be recalled that on February 22, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that he had instructed the Ministry of Economy to withdraw a report from the regulator, the federal network agency, for which the pipeline had already been issued, thus suspending the certification process . The decision to suspend certification in Germany was made after Russia’s declaration of “independence” of the occupied territories of Donbass, after which Russia launched an aggressive war against Ukraine.

Nord Stream 2 AG is the operator of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project, and its sole shareholder is Russia’s Gazprom. Джерело: https://biz.censor.net/n3340652
