Four-year-old girl Alisa from Mariupol , who was separated from her mother by Russian troops during the evacuation from the Azovstal plant, was handed over to her relatives.

Antonina Matveyeva, head of the Children’s Affairs Service of the Zaporozhye region, said in a commentary to  Radio Liberty that  the girl spoke via video link with her grandmother, who is now in Poland.

“We completed the paperwork, received duplicate birth certificates for Alice,” Matveeva said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, 4-year-old Alisa became known to the general public a few weeks ago when a video was circulated on social networks in which she talks about life in a shelter at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol.

Alice arrived on May 8 in Zaporozhye from Mariupol in a convoy with evacuated residents of Mariupol. The child was traveling alone, because  Russian invaders left her mother in a filtration camp in Mangush .

The girl was sheltered by the deputy chairman of the Zaporozhye Regional State Administration Zlata Nekrasova. Now the girl’s uncle has taken her to Chernivtsi.

As Zlata Nekrasova said in a comment to Suspilny , when the bus arrived, one of the evacuees wanted to take the child with her. She explained that Alice’s mother had written a receipt and asked her to hand over her daughter to relatives.

“I saw from the state of the girl who accompanied her that she herself needed help, and what they experienced … Now taking care of a child is difficult. And the child needs to be adapted, shown him some other picture, please”, – said Nekrasova.

She said that she tried to spend time with the girl in the yard as often as possible. After all, according to Alice’s stories, she and her mother did not go out into the street, hiding from the bombs.

According to Nekrasova, Alice constantly walked with a backpack. She takes things and says, “What if we don’t come home.”

The girl’s mother’s name is Victoria and she is a doctor. According to the documents, the woman is raising her daughter alone. As Nekraova explained, negotiations on the release of Victoria are being led by the Minister of Reintegration, Irina Vereshchuk. Also, a letter was sent from the Zaporizhzhya OVA with a request to help the International Committee of the Red Cross.

“Alice every day asks us to go for mom, so that we release mom. The child understands everything. The child understands where the mother is,” says Nekrasova.

On May 10, Alice’s uncle arrived in Zaporozhye. With him she went to Chernivtsi.

According  to the Ombudsman  Lyudmila Denisova, the girl will soon meet her grandmother, who will come from Poland. Alice will be transferred under her care, as a child who, under martial law, was left without parental care.

“However, this story will have a happy ending only after the release of the girl’s mother from the filtration camp and her return from the occupied territory. I call on international organizations to join the release of Ukrainians in captivity in order to restore the right of children to parental upbringing, which is provided for by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child I appeal to the UN Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violations during the Russian military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of violations by the Russian Federation of the rights of the child in Ukraine,” Denisova wrote.

According to the regional Service for Children, this is the 36th case recorded by the service, when young children under 14, without parents, arrived during the evacuation in Zaporozhye.

  1. So sorry to this little girl that we in the civilised world did so little to stop nazi savagery from returning to Europe.

  2. God forgive us for turning a blind eye and not confronting evil before it got to this point. May Holy Angels free her mother and reunite them in safety.
