The enterprise needs to supply 53 thousand units of goods – dynamic protection containers “Contact-1”. This order will be enough to provide armor protection for approximately 230 tanks
This indicates an attempt to modernize the models of the 1970-1980s, which were not yet equipped with dynamic protection (it prevents cumulative artillery shells from burning through armor).
At the same time, “Contact-1” is an outdated protection; back in 1985, “Contact-5” was developed. Initially, T-64M, T-72BV, T-72BU, T-80U, UM, BM were equipped with such armor. And the 4th generation Malachite kits are already being installed on the T-90M.
“Obviously, serious losses are pushing for the modernization of obsolete vehicles of the Ministry of Defense,” the newspaper writes.
The fact that the Russian Armed Forces have a shortage of vehicles suitable for combat operations is also indicated by the report of British intelligence officers.
According to the military, Russia has already begun to lose the most modern tanks in battles with the Ukrainians , of which the units of the Russian army, including those fighting in Ukraine, have up to 100 units in total.
Replacing modernized and advanced equipment will be especially difficult due to sanctions that limit Russia’s access to critical microelectronics components, intelligence officials stress.

There most modern tank the T90M lasted two days in Ukraine. It’s not they don’t have enough modern tanks, they don’t have any tanks that can evade Messrs Javelin, N’Law and Stugna P.
I guess they will have to just go back into the Donbas mines and start pulling them out again 😉
I thought I read a report that the so called “modern” tanks were more useless as the old tanks because they put the ammo right where it was easier to explode. I was just hoping that they would put in more cockroaches in one tank so that the javelins can wipe out more vermin.
